Just days after taking oath as Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari is set to hold his government’s first key administrative meeting on May 11. The meeting will bring together Superintendents of Police and senior district officials at Nabanna Sabhagarh, signalling an early focus on law and order as well as administrative coordination across West Bengal.
This meeting is significant because it sets the tone for the new government’s governance priorities following a major political transition in the state.
Soon after assuming office, Adhikari paid tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee at his residence in Kolkata, emphasising the ideological roots of the BJP’s rise.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “The ideology and political foundation on which the rise and ultimately victory of BJP is based, is that of Syama Prasad Mookerjee...if not for Syama Prasad Mookerjee, our condition would have been the same as the minority Hindus in Bangladesh. I will propose to the cabinet and in the assembly to designate June 20, 1947, as West Bengal's Foundation Day.”
His remarks underline a strong ideological positioning early in his tenure.
Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal by Governor R. N. Ravi at a high-profile ceremony in Kolkata.

Now all of India is in his thrall
The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several senior leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, J. P. Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan, along with chief ministers from multiple states.
The presence of top leadership highlighted the national importance of the political shift in West Bengal.
Alongside the Chief Minister, five BJP leaders—Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu and Nisith Pramanik—took oath as ministers in the West Bengal cabinet.
Their inclusion reflects the BJP’s leadership mix as it begins governing the state.
The BJP’s win marked a major political turning point, ending 15 years of rule by the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee.
The party secured 207 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections, while the TMC won 80. Adhikari himself delivered a high-profile victory by defeating Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by over 15,000 votes and also retaining the Nandigram seat.
Following the ceremony, Adhikari visited the Bharat Sevashram Sangha in Kolkata to offer prayers, signalling a blend of governance and symbolic outreach.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the families of slain BJP workers Debasish Mondal, Soumitra Ghoshal and Ananda Paul, adding an emotional dimension to the day’s events.
The May 11 administrative meeting is expected to be the first step in translating electoral victory into governance. With a strong mandate and a focus on ideology, law enforcement, and administrative alignment, Suvendu Adhikari begins his tenure under intense national attention.
