According to Gautam, one of the accused is a Rapido rider, while the other two, a minor and Rehan, work as labourers in Sonipat. She said further interrogation will give more clarity.

Preliminary questioning showed the men planned to travel to Delhi on this train and then slip into Nepal. “The accused were intending to cross Rajasthan’s borders to flee abroad,” police said.

THE GANG LINK

Gautam said Rehan had earlier been in contact with Anil Pandit, an alleged associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who is suspected of operating from the US. The report does not say what that contact involved, and the police have not said the attack was ordered by the gang.

The weapons used in the firing have not been recovered, Gautam told a press conference. The accused will be questioned about them. The three are undergoing intensive interrogation, and the Mumbai Police, who have arrived in Kota, have been informed and will take custody for further legal proceedings.

THE ATTACK

The shooting took place at around 7 pm on Sunday as Shroff was leaving a football club in Juhu. The accused allegedly opened fire at his car. The actor escaped direct gunshot injuries, but his driver was hurt.
