Q How do you imagine your married life to be?
A Just like any girl who is getting married, I wish for a happy married life with a husband and family who will love me for what I am. I will do my best to make my husband and his family very happy.
Q What changes will you have to make in your life after marriage?
A I will not change my personality because this is who I am. Elesh likes me that way. Well, once I get married, I would like to balance my work and home so that I can enjoy every minute with him.
Q Do you fear that your celebrity status might cause ego rifts in the relationship?
A I don’t think so. Elesh is very mature and understands me completely. Elesh has married Rakhi Sawant, not Rakhi Sawant the celebrity. So, I don’t think that this will cause any unhappiness in our relationship. There are so many examples in the glamour world where one is a celebrity and the other is not and they are still happy, like Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar, Madhuri Dixit and Dr Nene to name a few.
Q Can your new relationship withstand the strain of all the controversies that you are routinely associated with?
A Elesh understands who I am as a person, and he also understands that controversy is a part of my life because I am a famous personality. It will not cause a strain in our relationship because he will know the truth behind everything. Elesh is a very understanding person and mature enough to handle all this.
Q The nation has watched you romance your ex-boyfriend Abhishek on television. How does your fiancé react to your earlier relationships?
A Everyone has a past. Even Elesh has had relationships in the past. He knows that I am serious about our relationship and I know that he is serious and committed to me. We have discussed everything and have been very honest with each other. There is now nothing more to discuss.
Q You’re perceived as a rare urban phenomenon today. Do you look at yourself that way?
A I think today Rakhi Sawant is loved by all of India. I’m not an urban or rural phenomenon. I am very happy that people know me and recognise me and have welcomed me in their hearts. I wanted to be successful, independent and to be able to support myself and my family, and I have finally achieved it.
Q What was the most difficult thing about your childhood?
A I had to grow up very fast because I had to shoulder the responsibility of my entire family at a very young age. It was very difficult and I had to find ways to take care of them and forget myself and my own needs. But I am happy because I have made a name for myself and was able to take care of my family. God gave me the hardships so that I could become a stronger person.
Q Did you ever have to lie on the casting couch?
A Not at all.
Q Is it true that some news channels make you do things just so that they could have a news item about you?
A Media is like my family. They have always supported me and have made me what I am today. I will always be grateful for their support.
