In a major boost to India’s renewable energy ambitions, Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) said it has crossed the 15,000 MW mark in operational renewable energy capacity, making it the largest and fastest green energy player in the country’s history.
Group chairman Gautam Adani announced the milestone on Monday, calling it a defining moment not just for the company but for India’s clean energy future. “From the desert landscapes of Khavda to a proud place among the world’s Top 10 Green Power Producers, this milestone is more than a number,” he said in a post on X. “It reflects our commitment to the planet and our resolve to drive India’s green resurgence,” Adani added.
The achievement positions his company among the global leaders in renewable energy and emphasises India’s ambitious shift away from fossil fuels. The Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat, where a significant share of this capacity has been developed, is set to become one of the largest clean energy installations in the world, according to estimates and company forecasts.
In February this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that India is set to add 500 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The Prime Minister Narendra made his comments during his virtual address at Indian Energy Week 2025. He had stressed that the next two decades would be crucial for India’s goal of becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’ and that renewable energy plays a pivotal role in that growth. Modi had said that India’s targets may seem ambitious. However, the achievements of the past decade give us the confidence to meet them, the Prime Minister had said early this year.
