PM announces demography mission, praises RSS role in nation building

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a demography mission to analyse and suggest responses to illegal migration that he said was leading to social tensions in India's border areas.

He also said such migration is part of a well-thought-out conspiracy to change the country's demography and create a new crisis.

"These infiltrators are snatching the jobs of our youth, they are targeting my country's sisters and daughters," the Prime Minister said, in what might the closest he has come to using the term "love jiihad." He said infiltrators are misleading tribals and taking over their land.

Modi also praised the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh which is completing 100 years. "I want to mention one thing with great pride that 100 years ago, an organisation was born… Its 100 years of national service has been a very proud and glorious page," he said.

His words acknowledge his own association with the RSS as a pracharak. He said swayamsewaks have dedicated their lives to fulfil the resolve of 'vyakti nirman' (character development) and 'rashtra nirman' (nation building) for the welfare of 'matrubhoomi' (motherland), he said. "I respectfully remember all the swayamsevaks who have contributed to these 100 years of national service," he said.

This might the be the first time that the constructive role and activities of the RSS have been referred to by a Prime Minister in an Independence Day address.
