Widow’s Bay Review: Crazy Encounters

Widow’S Bay | Director: Hiro Murai | Cast: Matthew Rhys, Kate O’ Flynn | English | Apple TV

Widow’s Bay has a history of swallowing any man who steps out to make a life, and making those who stay back miserable. When new mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) tries to drag the island into the 21st century, thinking that better infrastructure and investment will solve its problems, the curse oreturns. Strange things start happening at night, fog shrouds the island, witches appear on nocturnal streets, inns are haunted and visitors realise that the enchanted island is blighted. But it is leavened with a brand of dry humour that Rhys’ Loftis delivers with a poker face, as he encounters bizarre goings-on. His exchanges with his assistant Patricia, played by Kate O’Flynn, are especially hilarious.
