Web Series Review: Dining With the Kapoors

Dining With the Kapoors | Director: Aadar Jain | Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan | Hindi | Netflix

Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan are gossips, Rima Jain is Prithviraj Kapoor’s granddaughter so can throw her voice from her stomach, and Neetu Kapoor brings her own tiffin box to every meal so she doesn’t end up fat like the family she married into.

These are some of the revelations from watching 61 minutes of various members of the Kapoor family stuffing their faces, only to discover that they’re just like us, mourning the loss of a home they all once shared but had to sell, presumably because they need money as do lesser mortals.

In what looks like a rushed edit of what could have been a more impactful documentary, the film focuses on a lunch organised to honour Raj Kapoor’s 100th anniversary, with shots of the aforesaid home, Deonar Cottage, Raj Kapoor’s home, and one on one interviews with members of the Kapoor Clan. Directed by Aadar Jain, the great grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor, the film was as much an ad for his cloud kitchen started during Covid as for his love for Raj Kapoor, a man he never got a chance to meet. The film ends with a lunch, with many promises to celebrate together on other occasions. What next? Drinking with the Kapoors? That’s a thought.
