Tiger Shroff firing case: Why Mumbai Police changed ‘Plan B’ in Kota as 3 suspects are taken into custody

A late-night change in plans, a heavily guarded police station and a cross-state handover: the investigation into the firing at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car has moved from Mumbai to Rajasthan and back. Mumbai Police has now taken custody of the three suspects arrested in Kota, after a local court granted the team 48-hour transit remand to bring them to Mumbai for further questioning.
But why did the suspects remain in Kota overnight instead of being transported immediately? And what are investigators trying to establish about the shooting in Mumbai’s Juhu area?
Why Mumbai Police changed ‘Plan B’ in Kota
The three suspects were held at Railway Colony police station in Kota overnight, with personnel from the Mumbai Crime Branch and Rajasthan Police maintaining security around the premises. Mumbai Police reportedly revised its original plan to transport them to Mumbai during the night, adopting an alternative arrangement described as “Plan B”.

Constitutional legitimacy versus political opportunism
Kota Additional Superintendent of Police Subhash Chandra Mishra explained that the suspects were produced before the competent court after their arrest and that the court granted transit remand. They were subsequently handed over to Mumbai Police.
Mishra said the team had been travelling for a long time and was exhausted after extensive questioning. For security and safety reasons, the police decided against departing at night, he added. Rajasthan Police would provide an escort if requested by the Mumbai team, with its responsibility otherwise extending to the state border.
The overnight stay, therefore, was explained by local police in terms of fatigue and security, not as confirmation of a fresh threat to the suspects or the investigation.
What happened when Tiger Shroff’s car came under fire?
The shooting took place at around 7 pm on Sunday, October 18, in Mumbai’s Juhu neighbourhood, when Shroff was leaving a football club. The assailants allegedly opened fire at his car. The actor escaped direct gunshot injuries, but his driver sustained injuries. Police subsequently arrested three suspects while they were travelling on a train in Rajasthan. Their detention in Kota allowed Mumbai investigators to begin the process of bringing them back to the city, where they are expected to undergo detailed interrogation.
The case has since raised questions about how the alleged shooters reached the location, how they escaped and whether anyone else helped plan or execute the attack.
Did the suspects conduct reconnaissance before the shooting?
Investigators are examining CCTV footage and the suspects’ movements in the days before the incident to establish whether the attack was planned in advance. Earlier reports said police were probing whether the accused had surveyed areas around Shroff’s residence and the football ground.
Reports have also described a possible escape route involving travel through different parts of Maharashtra and Rajasthan. These details remain part of the investigation; the suspects’ precise roles, alleged motive and possible links to others have yet to be established publicly.
What charges have been filed in the Tiger Shroff firing case?
A case has been registered under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, according to the details provided by police. The provisions concern attempted murder, acts committed by several people in furtherance of a common intention, and offences involving arms.
With the suspects now in Mumbai Police custody, investigators are expected to focus on questioning them, analysing CCTV footage and tracing any alleged chain of instructions behind the shooting. Their arrest marks an important step, but the central questions remain unanswered: who was behind the attack, what was the motive, and were others involved?
