A PHARMA CEO (EMMA STONE) who believes she is running an ethical company with humane hours; two conspiracy theorists Teddy and Don (Jesse Plemnons and Aidan Delbis), who believe she is part of an alien species, Andromeda, and that she has been sent to colonise earth and destroy the honeybees. The misguided duo abducts our CEO, lock her up in the basement, and decide to prevent her from contacting her mothership.
After much blood and gore, and many philosophical arguments later, it is revealed that the Andromedans may well be enslaving the whole of humanity. Is Michelle (Stone) an alien or just an efficient corporate titan? Are Teddy and Don idiots or savants? They give her a super-efficient haircut, apply cream on her to prevent her from communicating with the mothership and engage her in many discussions on the end of the world, all shot in VistaVision. This is the fourth time the director Yorgos Lanthimos and Stone are working together and the ease of cinematic creation shows. Bugonia is a metaphor for what has happened to world as we know it, which means it is an absurdist comedy pretending to be a tragedy.
