Stargazer: Elnaaz Norouzi, Shaunak Sen and Mauli Singh

LA Calling
When Elnaaz Norouzi came to Bollywood from Germany, the Iranian-origin actor promised herself she wouldn’t go the way of most foreign women: get stuck with an ‘item girl’ image. Norouzi made her breakthrough in the Netflix hit, Sacred Games (2018), and though she did item songs, they were only later in her career. She has been working on her international presence with the second season of the Apple TV+ series, Tehran, and the Gerard Butler movie, Kandahar (2023). Now, she finds herself among the big boys in the upcoming action film ‘The Fix’, with Liam Neeson and Zachary Levi.
Sen and Sensibility
Shaunak Sen has been busy this year. The filmmaker, who made the award-winning 2022 documentary All That Breathes, has been working on a new short film, ‘Termite’. Starring Faisal Malik and Valavane Koumarane as termite exterminators, the film is premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival. Sen is also turning the camera towards a more personal space, focusing his new documentary on the surgeon who helped him through his cancer diagnosis.

New Talent
Most people know her as a publicist of indie cinema, but Mauli Singh is also an actor. She will star in Shashank Walia’s upcoming Punjabi film, ‘Hanere De Panchhi’, backed by Hansal Mehta. Singh plays Dilraj, a farm labourer in rural Punjab with a strong political consciousness. The film will have its world premiere in the vision section of the 31st Busan International Film Festival.
