Final Countdown

No one makes music quite like Karpe, the Norway-based rap duo comprising Gujarati-origin artist Chirag Patel and his partner Magdi Omar Ytreeide Abdelmaguid who is half-Egyptian. After years of enthralling listeners with a singular musical mix of Gujarati, Norwegian and Arabic melodies, Karpe is now preparing to retire with multiple farewell shows at Oslo Spektrum in August 2028. Check out the duo’s 2024 hit, ‘Piya Piya Calling’—a collaboration with musicians, Delara and Kaifi Khalil, and the dance crew, The Quick Style—for a taste of their rhythm.

A Very Desi Gentleman

Karan Aujla channelling Eddie Halstead (Theo James) from the Guy Ritchie series, The Gentlemen, was not on anyone’s bingo card. But that is exactly the vibe in ‘Ashke’, the Canadian-Indian rapper’s new music video—complete with a country estate, a multi-generational cast spanning 22 members of his family, 23 guns, 12 cars, and a butler with a cut-glass accent. Directed by brothers Agam and Aseem Mann, who have collaborated with Aujla before, ‘Ashke’ is as much an appropriation of British poshness as it is a slap in the face of colonialism. The message: the English may still have their country estates, but it takes immigrants to keep them afloat.

Intimate Encounters

Richa Moorjani has gone from strength to strength following her role as Kamala in the Netflix hit Never Have I Ever. She played Indira Olmstead, a police woman in Season 5 of the FX series, Fargo; and star accountant Aruna in Season 2 of Netflix’s Running Point. Now the actor is part of the cast of the upcoming ‘Intimacy Party’, an ensemble comedy co-starring Juno Temple and Michiel Huisman. Expect lots of dominatrix leathers, and other nocturnal pleasures.
