Rap, Rage and Recycled Tropes in Lukkhe

There are two rappers in conflict with each other. There is a hockey player who gets involved in the drug business through the pretty sister of one of the rappers. And then there is a female police officer who doesn’t want Chandigarh to become like Colombia. There are rehabilitation centres, shootouts in streets, rave parties, and brutal killings. Been there, done that. This is safe ground for streaming shows and follows the template set by the brilliant Kohraa.

At a time when there is so much self censorship on ideas that rock the boat, Lukkhe is a streaming series that sticks to the algorithm: sex, drugs and rap, with a healthy dose of Punjabi dialogue. It is all too familiar and unfortunate in a country teeming with stories. The only bright spot in an otherwise lame set up is the casting: unusual faces such as Punjabi singer King, Lakshvir Singh Saran, and a very credible Raashi Khanna.
