OTT Review: Trust on trial in 'Accused'

Accused | Director: Anubhuti Kashyap | Cast: Konkona Sen Sharma, Pratibha Rannta | English | Netflix

Dr Geetika (Konkona Sen Sharma) and Dr Meera (Pratbha Rannta) are in love. The married couple live in a lovely townhouse in London and are about to adopt a baby. What could go wrong, even if Dr Meera’s square Meerut family doesn’t understand that they are more than flatmates. Well, a lot does, with Dr Geetika (why don’t women in Bollywood films ever have surnames?) being accused of sexual harassment, which threatens her move to become dean of her department.

Dr Geetika and Dr Meera are thrown into a tizzy as they embark on a spy vs spy competition. The former wants to get to the bottom of the allegations, the latter just wants to know if she is being cheated on. The two seem friendly enough, sharing takeout and homemade bhindi. They wear beautiful winter clothes, but they seem to lack the intimacy required for lovers. The denouement is a letdown. As is the film, despite Sen Sharma’s polished performance.
