Mirzapur: The Movie Review - Return of the Familiar

Kaleen bhaiyya (Pankaj Tripathi) is still giving lessons that virasat and siyasat (dynasty and politics) are two ways to acquire power. His son Munna bhaiyya (played in his usual unhinged way by Divyenndu) is still trying to expand Kaleen bhaiyya’s power beyond Mirzapur.

Guddu (a bulked-up Ali Fazal) and Bablu (Jitendra Kumar, who replaced Vikrant Massey from the series) are still clashing with him. Mirzapur: The Movie is like watching a collection of ghosts from seasons past of the Prime Video hit streaming series Mirzapur, who have decided to walk once more for the money. Enter the only new character of note, a rival gangster Babban Yadav (Ravi Kishan).

The ambition remains the same: he who controls Mirzapur controls Purvanchal, and then in turn controls Uttar Pradesh. Rasika Dugal shines as the scheming wife of Kaleen bhaiyya. The movie has action, item songs, drama, and our beloved characters, alive and dead. The only thing it lacks is the most vital quality of all: originality.
