The 2026 BAFTA Television Awards, held on Sunday at London's Royal Festival Hall and hosted by Greg Davies, saw Netflix's ‘Adolescence’ make BAFTA history.

It became the most awarded series at a single main ceremony, winning four categories in one night. But five moments from the evening transcended the trophies altogether.

The Teenager Who Made BAFTA History

At 16, Owen Cooper completed one of the most extraordinary awards runs in television history by winning Supporting Actor for ‘Adolescence’, his debut screen performance.

The win capped a full sweep of major industry honours, having already secured the Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG Award and Critics Choice Award.

Eight Nominations, One Long-Overdue Win

Stephen Graham won Leading Actor for ‘Adolescence’ on his eighth BAFTA nomination in the acting categories, his first-ever win.

In a visibly emotional moment, he reportedly told the audience: "No matter where you're from, anything is possible," according to Yahoo News Canada.

A Nation Voted, and Alan Carr Had One Question

The P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award, the only BAFTA decided entirely by the British public, went to Alan Carr's victory on ‘The Celebrity Traitors’.

Collecting the prize, Carr reportedly quipped, as per the BBC: "Was I good? Was I really? Or were the other celebrities just thick?" The line drew the biggest laugh of the evening.

The Dedication That Silenced the Room

Narges Rashidi won Leading Actress for her portrayal of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe in BBC One's ‘Prisoner 951’, with Zaghari-Ratcliffe and her husband Richard in the audience.

Rashidi reportedly dedicated the award to her directly, saying: "Your courage will stay with me for the rest of my life. This is for you", according to the BBC.

Dame Mary Berry Receives BAFTA's Highest Honour

The evening's most emotional tribute went to Dame Mary Berry, 91, awarded the BAFTA Fellowship, the highest accolade the Academy bestows.

The beloved TV cook and former Great British Bake Off judge received a standing ovation, whilst being handed the trophy by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.

Why the 2026 BAFTA TV Awards Will Be Remembered

Sunday's ceremony reflected a television landscape in transition: youth claiming the stage, real-world stories demanding recognition, and institutions honouring their own.

As ‘Adolescence’ reshapes national conversations around online safety, the 2026 BAFTA TV Awards may be remembered as much for its human stories as its record-breaking sweep.
