Seven months ago, Jim Carrey stood on a stage in Paris and did something unusually revealing for a Hollywood star who has spent much of his life keeping his private world away from the cameras. Accepting an honorary César Award, Carrey looked towards his family and then towards Min Ah, his longtime partner. “Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah,” he said during a speech delivered in French. Then came the sweet declaration: “I love you, Min Ah.”

For a relationship that has largely unfolded away from Hollywood's glare, the timeline is striking: a rare public appearance in Paris in February, a heartfelt declaration of love, and then, seven months later, marriage.

February 2026: Jim Carrey introduces Min Ah to the world without really making an announcement

The relationship did not arrive with a conventional Hollywood red-carpet reveal. Carrey and Min Ah had reportedly been seen together privately before, including in Los Angeles in 2022. But it was their appearance at the 51st César Awards in Paris on February 26, 2026 that put their relationship firmly in the public eye. Carrey was the guest of honour at the French film awards, where he received an honorary César. His daughter Jane, grandson Jackson and Min Ah were also present. Then came the speech.

Carrey thanked his daughter and grandson before turning his attention to Min Ah, whom he called his “sublime companion”. He followed it with “I love you, Min Ah” and then paid tribute to his late father, Percy Joseph Carrey, saying his father had taught him the value of love, generosity and laughter. It was hardly a traditional relationship announcement. But for someone as private as Carrey, it said plenty.

September 2026: Seven months after that ‘I love you’, Jim Carrey is married

Fast-forward to September 30. A representative for Carrey that the actor had married Min Ah. The couple had largely kept their relationship away from the spotlight, making their public appearances together relatively rare. That privacy has continued into their wedding.

While multiple reports describe the ceremony as a small, private event in Los Angeles, neither Carrey nor Min Ah has publicly shared details about the ceremony. The couple reportedly exchanged vows in an intimate Los Angeles ceremony, citing reports from US outlets. And that low-key approach may be the most consistent part of the entire relationship.

Jim Carrey once said he had ‘enough’. Then came Min Ah and a new chapter

There is another reason this marriage feels like an interesting chapter in Carrey's life. In a 2022 interview while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Carrey spoke about wanting a quieter existence away from the relentless machinery of Hollywood. “I really like my quiet life,” he said at the time, describing his love of painting and spiritual life. “I have enough.” He also said he was seriously considering stepping back from acting, although he left the door open for a project he considered important.

That does not mean marriage changed his career plans. But it does offer a glimpse into the life Carrey has spoken about wanting: less noise, more privacy and more space for the things he values away from the screen. And now, Min Ah is part of that chapter.

Jim Carrey and Min Ah’s relationship stayed mostly away from Hollywood cameras

Unlike many celebrity romances, there has been no years-long stream of red-carpet appearances, interviews and social-media declarations documenting their relationship. That makes the César Awards moment even more significant. Until then, the couple had largely kept their romance private. Even their public appearance in Paris was less a formal relationship announcement than a glimpse into Carrey's family circle. Then Carrey gave the audience something unmistakably personal: a public “I love you”.

Seven months later, that same relationship has become a marriage.

Min Ah is now Jim Carrey’s wife as he enters his third marriage

The marriage is Carrey's third. He was previously married to Melissa Womer, with whom he shares daughter Jane. The couple married in 1987 and divorced in 1995.

Carrey later married his Dumb and Dumber co-star Lauren Holly in September 1996. That marriage lasted less than a year, with the pair separating in June 1997.

Carrey subsequently had several high-profile relationships, including with actress and comedian Jenny McCarthy and his Kidding co-star Ginger Gonzaga.

But Min Ah's relationship with Carrey has unfolded differently, largely outside the celebrity spotlight. And perhaps that makes the seven-month journey from Paris to Los Angeles feel particularly fitting. In February, under the lights of the César Awards, Jim Carrey called Min Ah his “sublime companion” and told her he loved her. In September, away from the cameras, they got married.

For a Hollywood star whose career has been defined by some of cinema's loudest laughs, this particular love story has been remarkably quiet.
