Subedaar | Director: Suresh Triveni | Cast: Anil Kapoor, Radhika Menon | Hindi | Prime Video
How many actors can say the following words effectively: Go home kid, your mother must be waiting for you. Anil Kapoor can and does so in Subedaar, whether it is in teaching the kid a lesson or remembering his late wife. Kapoor, as the titular Subedaar (army officer) Arjun Maurya, keeps his body erect, his stare unblinking, and his facial muscles loose.
He is wounded by his past, by the fact that though he focused on the enemies outside, the enemy within was devouring what was good in society. While the Subedaar tries to fit into civilian life by getting a job as a bodyguard, he is revolted by the injustices he sees and manages to earn the wrath of the mafia boss’s unhinged brother (Aditya Rawal). It is a busy film with plenty of side plots. There are also deaths of children due to sand mining mafia, there is the Subedaar’s daughter who is dealing with boys who harass her. The Subedaar is also trying to retrieve some money his late wife (Khushbu Sundar) left, and attempting to mend his relationship with his daughter at the same time. The performances by the whole cast are top notch, but they cannot distract from the fact that this is a movie that we have all seen before.
