Even as the so-called thought leaders from the left side of the argument continued their hate campaign against the ‘communal’, ‘divisive’, ‘antediluvian’ Right, rejoinders were not always marked by a refinement of ideas.

One voice stands out—for its sophistication while being savage, for its historical sense and touch of lightness, for its cosmopolitanism, for its wit and vigour. As a writer and public speaker, he is the urbane interlocutor of the Modi era. As a conservative thinker, he is never at a loss of words whenever Left-liberals are at their noisy worst. With a dash of English impishness, he is funny too, without ever losing civility.
