After opening a showroom that signalled its entry into India, Tesla has launched its first charging station. Chargers were one of the company’s USPs when it changed the dynamics of the electric vehicle market in the US. Along with cutting-edge cars, it built a vast network of charging stations across highways there. In India, the first station was opened in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex business district near its showroom. It will have four V4 Supercharger stalls that can add 267kms of range to Model Y, the only one on offer in the country at present. There are also four cheaper but slower Destination Chargers in the facility. For the Supercharger, a Tesla owner would have to pay `24 per kWh, while the slower option comes at `14 per kWh. Fully charging with the V4 could cost between `1,500 and `1,800. Car owners, of course, have the option of charging at home with an accessory that comes along with the car and that would mean the only cost is in the electricity. Tesla plans eight charging stations in Mumbai and Delhi, where it will also soon launch a new showroom.
Apple’s Chatbot
Apple may have so far struggled to catch up with its competitors in the AI race, but it is making a serious go at it by trying to develop what has been described as a ChatGPT-like product internally. According to reports, this AI chatbot can respond to questions using information from across the web. It can reportedly serve as a stand-alone app or enhance search capabilities in Siri, Safari, and other Apple products.
Reddit’s Search Ambitions
As the world’s most popular discussion board, Reddit may be in a niche all of its own, but the company is trying to refashion itself as a search engine. Reddit’s CEO Steve Huffman revealed that search will soon be made a central feature of the platform. According to this planned revamp, Reddit Search and Reddit Answers, an AI-powered feature that has been growing rapidly, will be united into a single search experience.
Digital Protection
WhatsApp has launched a new safety tool to protect users from being scammed or added to suspicious groups. Called Safety Overview and meant to help users who may be less adept online, this feature will show up when a person not in your contacts list adds you to a group. It will show information like who created the group and general safety tips before any message is even displayed.
