Ajay Devgn is the master of minimalism, using minimal facial expressions to convey maximum impact and minimal body movements to suggest great action. He is also the master of sequels. From Drishyam to Raid, Devgn loves to return to the familiar. So does the audience, but with diminishing returns. So here he is, honest Income-Tax officer Amay Patnaik, back in your favourite neighbourhood haveli to ferret out cash from a water tank and gold from underneath sugarcane fields. He uses intellect over brute force and common sense over brawn. Devgn looks ordinary here but does heroic things onscreen, a combination that is irresistible. This time he has a formidable opponent, someone who has popular support apart from armed backing. How Patnaik outwits his opponent is the rather simple plot of the story but it’s been there, done that, bought the T-shirt and paid the tax.
