Last December, when OpenAI unveiled Sora, it once again bedazzled the world because now, not just images or text replies, a video could be generated by just a prompt. Sora remained a standalone product, which meant that users with access would have to go to a specific website. But an indication of the shape of how AI will evolve into the hands of users comes with news that OpenAI is planning to integrate Sora into ChatGPT, its popular chatbot. This has already happened with images. In the beginning, if users needed to create them, they had to turn to the OpenAI product DALL-E, now they can do it directly through ChatGPT. The same will happen with Sora, according to the company. Such an integration will lead to the general public, and not just those in creative fields, starting to use video generation. Once the technology advances enough, then anyone would be able to make quality videos despite limited editing or production skills. How that will change the nature of fields that require videos, from advertising to moviemaking to creating reels, remains to be seen but it will be radical. No fixed time has however been provided for the integration and free users will probably get a very limited version.
Doctor’s Assistant
Microsoft has introduced a new voice-activated AI assistant that is designed for healthcare professionals. Called Dragon Copilot, it can transcribe clinical notes and draft paperwork, as well as search for information from medical sources. There have been many AI healthcare tools, but most carry the risk of hallucinating, where the tool makes things up. As new tools like Microsoft’s emerge, perhaps over time, this issue will disappear.
Alexa Gets An AI Boost
When Alexa was first introduced about a decade ago, it heralded a new moment in personal technology. It has since fallen behind other virtual assistants, with people mostly using it now for simple tasks. Amazon is now upgrading Alexa, boosting it with generative AI, and making it more conversational and useful. The firm recently demonstrated how the upgrade, Alexa+, could identify a speaker and even accomplish tasks.
Scam Buster
The issue of scams, where swindlers cheat people over the phone, is a global menace. Google has recently launched a scam detecting feature on its Pixel 9 series of phones in the US, which using AI analysis, is capable of detecting scams during ongoing calls. The AI listens to ongoing calls and issues alerts in the form of audio cues or on-screen notifications when it detects a risky pattern.
