From lauki, it is now time for the ladoo to become politicised. It is election time in Phulera, and now it is a ladoo given by Pradhanji and eaten by Binod from Team Bhushan that is causing angst. For loyalties cannot be bought so easily when the tradeable items involve votes, criminal cases, and even a horse. Phulera’s quirky crowd is very much in existence. But the stakes are higher, so much so that the opposing parties are ready to take credit for the samosa and the aloo in it separately. What was once an idyllic spot in the middle of nowhere, is now a fretful pressure cooker of political ambitions. In that sense, it is a more realistic view of the village than when Panchayat began but yes, it is also less unique. Politics at any level can be toxic and its players invariably become deal makers and deal breakers. Two big questions have to be answered in this series—who will win the election and be the new pradhan, and will Sachivji ever clear his CAT exam? Even when those two questions are answered, the series looks set for Season 5.
