Not everyone gets to balance red-carpet glamour with conscientious activism but Bhumi Pednekar has always been an outlier. Even as she readies for a new film in theatres, ‘Mere Husband ki Biwi’, and a new series on Netflix, The Royals, she is representing India at Davos, championing climate action and gender equality. She will be speaking at a series of discussions as a Young Global Leader, sharing the stage with global leaders such as the Forbes Executive Vice President Moira Forbes, Apparel Group founder and chairwoman Sima Ved, Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson and HSBC Chief Financial Officer Pam Kaur. “As an actor and advocate, I feel a profound sense of responsibility to use my platform to bring about change,” she says.
Matchmaking, Mundhra Style
After Indian Matchmaking’s success, Smriti Mundhra has diversified into Muslim Matchmaker, which follows Muslim Americans who find partners thanks to matchmakers from their community, Hoda Abrahim and Yasmin Elhady. Smriti, who was one of many who lost their homes in the California wildfires, has been on a roll creatively. Smriti is also a much sought after director of Indian American work, whether it is Never Have I Ever or The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh.
Sai Pallavi Goes North
Before we see Sai Pallavi in the much touted Ramayana, the doctor-turned-actor will probably hit the screens with Ek Din, co-starring Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan. Like Junaid’s next release Loveyapa, which is a remake of the Telugu hit, Love Today, Ek Din is a remake, but of a 2016 Thai film, One Day, directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun.
