Rohan Kanawade’s deeply felt and personal Marathi film Cactus Pears (also known as Sabar Bonda) about queer love, won the Audience Choice Award for Best Feature at the 2025 Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. The film had its debut at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize Dramatic. With many more festivals to go to, expect more honours for this film.

She made waves in the second season of Made in Heaven, played herself in Rainbow Rishta, and is playing a tough but vibrant cookie in the SonyLIV show, ‘Kankhajura’. In the four years she has been in the film industry, Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju has completed her MBBS, done acting workshops and given many auditions. “Sometimes they tell me I am too trans and sometimes I am too much of a woman,” she says, having fully transitioned to being a woman now. The actor has moved to Mumbai and finds that she has built her own community here, yet misses the transparency in the field of medicine where everybody is treated alike. “There is more performance off the screen in Mumbai than on it sometimes,” she says with a laugh.
