His retirement at Voltas follows scheduled exits from the boards of Trent and Titan under the same age-based governance guidelines. Trent announced that he would retire as chairman and director at the close of business on November 11 and become Chairman Emeritus the following day. Titan separately announced his retirement as non-executive, non-independent director and vice-chairman with effect from November 12.
Jayant Balan Named Managing Director Designate
Voltas also set out its succession plan for managing director Mukundan Menon C.P., whose tenure ends on May 24, 2027. Menon will retire from the company’s services that day under the Tata Group’s retirement policy for executive directors.
The board approved the appointment of Jayant Balan, currently head of the room air conditioner business, as an additional director and managing director for five years from May 25, 2027, subject to shareholder approval. Until then, Balan has been redesignated Head–Room Air Conditioner Business and Managing Director Designate.
Balan joined the Tata Group through the Tata Administrative Service in 1999 and moved to Voltas in 2001. His roles have spanned manufacturing, supply chain, strategy, international operations and consumer durables.
Trent’s Venkatesalu to Join Voltas Board
The board also approved the appointment of Venkatesalu Palaniswamy, managing director of Trent Limited, as an additional non-independent, non-executive director of Voltas from November 12, 2026.
The decisions establish two stages in Voltas’s leadership transition. The chairman and board changes take effect this November, followed by the planned managing director handover in May 2027.
