Here and there, in plain sight and passing moments, fragments of the world appear in India. First World writers who have pitched camp in Delhi, the Russian mafia wallowing in Goa, mystical White midwives, the enchanting dollar, African diplomats who long to be elsewhere, even ghosts from other lands, all live here, influencing and infecting us in ways we cannot easily imagine.
