A place where everything from Vietnam war veteran F4 Phantom fighter jets to chopped-up B52 bombers, Thunderbolts and F14 Tomcats are arranged nose to wing. The facility, dubbed the Boneyard, is home to generations of retired Air Force aircraft—4,200 planes valued at $35 billion. The desert is perfect for storing planes because the low humidity and rainfall prevent old aircraft from falling prey to rust. Tragically, while you are free to peer at the aircraft via Google Earth, trawling is restricted to the folks at the 309th Aerospace Maintenance And Regeneration Group, which carries out repairs.
