Big B is back on the small screen. This time as a pop philosopher on the show Big Boss: Season 3
Indian television is witnessing some of Bollywood’s hottest men descending on it. First, there was Salman Khan’s Dus Ka Dum on Sony, which showed his humane side. Then Akshay Kumar’s death-defying action and drama on Khatron Ke Khiladi : Season 2, which has just premiered on Colors. And now, the actor who kickstarted it all almost a decade ago in 2000 with Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh Bachchan, is back to reprise his television skills as pop philosopher on Big Boss : Season 3. After the initial shock of imagining the legend cooped up in the Khandala house with some wannashines subsided, it was a relief to learn he was the ‘voice of reason’ on the show, which commences in October. This is Bachchan’s second television job after KBC brought India to a standstill.
Though no actor will confirm it, his fees are rumoured to run into crores per episode. Given the flocking of such Bollywood personalities, television seems to be now on equal ground with cinema (TVs, wall-mounted and flat, look more and more like theatres). Maybe it is time to stop calling it the idiot box and start calling it the idiot screen.
