The Bangalore police is planning its own 24/7 television channel. The initiative, which will be fully financed by the government, is expected to get the nod in the next month’s state budget. It will start on an experimental basis for viewers in Bangalore. This is the brain child of Bangalore police commissioner Shankar M Bidari and will be staffed by the police department itself.
The yet-to-be-named channel will air police news and is expected to tackle spiralling crime rates. “It’s a revolutionary idea. We will start hiring reporters and technicians soon,’’says Bidari. The channel is expected to get quick aid to accident victims, identify unidentified bodies, trace the missing and inform the public about habitual offenders.
