Breguet Marine Tourbillon Chronograph—Platinum Version

A bold new platinum edition of the all-gold favourite launched in 2007

The Marine Tourbillon is a bold 43 mm diameter Breguet watch that is 14 mm thick. It is also one of the few hand-wound chronographs around. When the collection was launched in 2007, it was in 18 carat gold. This model comes in a platinum 950 case.

When it was launched in 2007, Marine Tourbillon was the first watch to incorporate silicone in its escapement, balance-spring, balance-wheel and lever. This makes the watch movement easier to regulate and adjust, as it does not require lubrication. Further, the tourbillon carriage is made of titanium. All these features make the movement light (particularly for a watch this size) and more shock resistant.

In 2007, the dial and hands of the watch were all gold. Now, in the platinum edition of the watch, they are made of blued steel. And though its dial is still made of solid gold, the finish has been changed to silvered platinum. The all platinum caseback is hand-engraved with a rose engine and it is water resistant up to 100 metres.

The dial too has guilloché work and each watch is individually numbered. The chronograph’s 30-minute totaliser is at 3 o’clock and its 12-hour totaliser is at 6 o’clock. The small seconds hand is on the tourbillon carriage, at 12 o’clock. The watch has 28 jewels and its hand wound movement has a maximum power reserve of 50 hours.
